Amazon outbids Google for .spot domain, shells out $2.2M

Extract: The Seattle online giant outbid Google on Wednesday in a top-level domain auction, paying $2.2 million for .spot. Per an agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Amazon will now be able to administer the domain and use .spot to further its own products, or potentially sell it to other commerce-conscious folks who want to register websites.
