What are new gTLDs?

gTLD means generic top level domain - this is like a .com where it is not tied to a country like a .uk or .fr domain name. There are basically two types of domain names, a generic name (like .com or .net) and a name which is the same as the ISO country code - this is the international lettering system given to all countries and used for tax numbers and all kind of things like Vehicle registrations. So a country cannot just choose what ending they want, it matches their ISO code.
