New gTLD Premium domain names: Tucows joins Sedo MLS Network

The partnership will enable Tucows to automatically distribute more than 17 million actual existing premium domains and premium domains of more than 400 upcoming new generic top­level domain (gTLD) extensions to the more than 13,000 resellers in Tucows’ OpenSRS reseller channel, and also allows Tucows registered domains to be listed for sale on the SedoMLS network.

Search Engine Indexing: why are new gTLDs relevant now?

Domain bias is reemerging with renewed relevance as new generic top level domains (gTLDs) are expected to begin hitting the market later this year. If you’re unfamiliar with gTLDs, they are essentially “dot-anything” domain extensions that go beyond .com, .net, .org and the other familiar domain endings that we see to the right of the dot. The new gTLDs could be anything from .science or .webcam to .bid and .download.

Workshop and Prize on Root Causes and Mitigation of Name Collisions (WPNC)

A high-impact two day workshop on the causes and potential mitigations of domain name collisions is being organized for the March 2014 timeframe. Research submissions are sought for presentation in the workshop and entry into competition. A prize committee at the workshop, basing its determinations on both the advance submissions and the in-person presentations of the submissions, will award $50,000 for the most valuable research contribution, one that most advances the state of knowledge and/or most deeply analyzes and mitigates risk.
